Happy New Year!

Last New Year's Eve my friend Melinda and I turned down party invitations and decided to spend the evening thinking about what was 2006 and what 2007 had in store. 2007 was an eventful year for both of us and it was a really liberating experience to actively recognize all of the accomplishments, challenges, learning opportunities, new ideas and skills, and new people we had accumulated in 2006. Armed with wine, paper and coloured markers, we drew up a mind map for all the things we wanted to do in 2007. Our topics for exploration covered work, travel, health, finances, love life and fitness to name a few.

This past New Year's Eve, we were in different cities and while I did think about our mind mapping I didn't actually get down to doing one. Perhaps it's not too late. I know I accomplished a number of my 2007 goals. While I had an image of 2007 in my mind, this time last year, I had no idea I would be spending 5 months in Toronto on education leave from work, or developing a Facebook application. Neither did I think I would EVER find myself standing on the corner of Yonge and Dundas saying "come on, minus 12 is not that bad. This is a typical winter day for us Ottawans." How quickly things can change!

Other goals I didn't manage to accomplish include losing 20lbs (funny that never seems to happen), taking up Spanish again, getting really fit by running trails (for some reason I have been dreaming about running trails in Gatineau Park), striking it rich with my internet startup (am working on that one though), etc. etc.

I resolve to draw up a map for 2008 and when I get back to Ottawa, it will be interesting to see how it compares to the one for 2007.

Wishing you all peace and happiness for 2008.
